DNO Produce Statement on the Robb Elementary School shooting

This statement originally appeared in our May Newsletter on May 27, 2022.

Our hearts are broken over the tragic shooting in Uvalde, Texas. We are devastated by the loss of 19 innocent children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School.

Uvalde is a region known for growing produce items such as onions, cabbage, peppers, and melons. This tragedy touches the lives of so many people we hold dear: children, school professionals, farmers, and farmworkers.

As a company committed to the health and wellbeing of children, our hearts are with everyone impacted by this week's events.

We encourage you to join us in supporting the Uvalde community and your local community by doing one of the following:

  1. Give to the "Robb School Memorial Fund" through the First State Bank of Uvalde. This fund will provide support for the families impacted and is managed by the Vice President of the local food bank and the former Mayor.

  2. Reach out to a school near you and ask if there's anything you can do to support making the end of the year as positive as possible for students and families.

  3. Reach out to a school professional in your life, whether a school nutrition professional, a custodian, a teacher, or a bus driver. This tragedy is impacting everyone. Offer support, a listening ear, or a kind gesture such as making them a meal or helping with a simple task.
